A Dream of Books and Unfulfilled Romance
We were I-don’t-know-where-but-foreign-elsewhere and you had a store of truly remarkable books and objets d’art. We were also traveling so I don’t know how you also had a store! And i still had cancer. But anyway, I took the escalator, and, next scene, Kathryn, you were checking out someone at the sales counter, while I was perusing your beautiful shop, with your help, Roger. Then you, Kathryn, admired all of the many fine things I was adding to my basket, while I was adding them up in my head. My mom thought I was buying too much, but you said there’d be a discount bc I had SO many things to buy! Oh and there was a guy who was encouraging me to buy a particularly beautiful poetry book, and I think he was gonna ask me out. But, wah! I woke up before he could ask. Closest I’ve come to an attractive date in a long time! Heavy sigh.
Your dream is rich with themes of exploration, creativity, and personal reflection, intertwined with aspects of healing and desire. Let’s break it down into its key elements for a deeper understanding.
Setting: Foreign Elsewhere
The dream begins in an unknown, foreign place, which may represent a desire for adventure or change in your waking life. This "elsewhere" can symbolize a part of you that longs to explore new possibilities, whether they are emotional, intellectual, or social. It might indicate a yearning to step outside of your comfort zone or to experience life from a different perspective.
The Store of Remarkable Books and Art
The presence of a store filled with books and objets d’art evokes themes of wisdom and creativity. Books often represent knowledge and insights, suggesting that you are in a phase of seeking or receiving new information. The objets d’art can symbolize personal beauty and the appreciation of finer things in life. Together, they reveal a desire to enrich your life with new ideas and experiences, perhaps as a way to cope with or transcend the challenges you face, like dealing with cancer.
The Escalator
Taking the escalator may signify a journey or ascent in your life, indicating a movement towards growth or healing. Escalators typically symbolize transitions, suggesting that you are elevating your thoughts or emotions—perhaps you are processing your experiences related to your health and seeking higher understanding or appreciation of life.
The Characters: Kathryn, Roger, and the Encouraging Guy
Kathryn checking out customers may symbolize a connection or reconnection with someone in your life who supports and encourages you. Her admiration for the items you are choosing underlines the idea of self-worth; you are collecting aspects of your identity that you find beautiful and valuable. Roger, who assists you in the shop, may represent a supportive friend or inner voice that empowers you to embrace your creative side or pursue what you love.
The encouraging guy who prompts you to consider buying a book could symbolize potential romance or new relationships in your life—representing not only a desire for companionship but also the allure of intellectual connection. The fact that you wake up before he can ask you out suggests that there are desires or possibilities in your life that remain unexplored or unmet. This reflects your longing for connection and intimacy, especially given that you mentioned it has been a while since you've experienced an attractive date.
Your Mom's Concern
Your mother's presence might indicate internalized worries or the voice of caution in your life. It could represent societal or familial pressures, particularly about spending or making choices that reflect your values. Her concern about buying too much can symbolize the fear of overindulgence or a voice of practicality that contrasts with your feelings of joy and possibility in the dream.
Conclusion
In summary, your dream paints a meaningful picture of your current state of mind and emotions. It showcases your exploration of life, creativity, and healing amid challenges. The dream encourages you to embrace opportunities and not shy away from pursuing connections, whether they be romantic or friendship-oriented. It also highlights the importance of recognizing your worth and the beauty in your experiences, even when faced with adversities. Allow these symbols of adventure, support, and love to motivate you as you navigate your waking life.
